Wossup? As nobody ever says any-more. Even when they did it was shit. Things have been a bit slow around here at GameTwonk Towers, this month. Mostly due to other commitments and a lack of time to devote to reviews. That’s all gonna change now, though. With some exciting releases looming and enough time to devote to them, it’s all systems go, I hope. Just because I’m not writing game reviews, doesn’t mean that I’m not playing PC games, of course. Mostly, Grid 2 has been taking up my time. I’m not going to write about it, as there is a wealth of fact and opinion online covering all aspects. Besides that, I’ve discovered Game of Thrones, the TV series, not the game. So, starting from episode one and catching up with the many episodes I’ve missed has been….demanding. Admittedly, I have bought the Game of Thrones RPG PC game, but am yet to play it.

Hello, Twonkers. You may have noticed that the last few reviews all appeared in one, single, massive post. Crazy, huh. This happened because I simply ran out of time to get all the work I had planned done. It’s not easy fitting in playing shitloads of games, writing about them and having a ‘proper’ job, too. Well, maybe I’ve mostly been playing games and not much writing about them. Blame Battlefield 3.

Regular visitors will by now have noticed a few changes recently – new theme, new contributors and the inclusion of ads. This is due to the move to paid hosting and a need to try and pay for that, any surplus funds will pay for games to review. I doubt very much that we will earn more than a dollar though. So, help us out if you can by unblocking our ads and clicking on them from time to time. You will be supporting a small, independent PC gaming blog in a world being consumed by consoles. Help keep PC gaming alive.

Okay, so the site now has a totally new look. I like it a lot. Still ambivalent about the logo though. Really must get some new reviews up – currently working on Aliens: Colonial Marines and RPG Maker. Bill has continued to impress me with his Crysis 3 review; I get the feeling his work will go from strength to strength. Onwards.

So. Many. Games. To. Review. Does the preceding journalistic cliché bother you? It should.

A big welcome to Bill Thomas, our latest contributor. His Dead Space 3 review left me with no doubt that he can write quality game reviews. I look forward to reading more of his work.

Aaaargh, it seems that when I imported archived posts from the old server a few images were left behind, like lost children, weeping in the dark. This means that I now have the tedious task of crawling through every post checking images and uploading missing ones. Bugger. Besides that, I’ve added a few new features, such as ‘recent comments’ and ‘recent posts’ in the side-bar. Post authors will now be credited at the top of posts when full view is selected. I’m looking for a decent featured posts slider for the home page but fear this will require a whole new theme….hmmmm.

2013 brings a rebirth for GameTwonk, in the form of a move from free WordPress hosting to a more versatile funded provider. This meant rebuilding the site from scratch, which provided me with 72 hours of *fun* getting my head around the CSS code required to transfer the theme. The new site looks remarkably similar to the original, besides a new logo, which you have my dubious Photoshop *skills* to thank for. I’m considering trying to sort out some sponsorship / advertising to help pay for the hosting, which may need a more professional looking site.
This has led me to ponder the wisdom of actually paying somebody with expertise to design the site and possibly a logo. Would you like to help create GameTwonk’s new look? If so, get in touch.
Now things are settling down, it’s back to the earth shatteringly serious business of PC game reviews. I’ve been playing Dark Souls, Dishonoured, Far Cry 3, Sleeping Dogs, Ace Combat Assault Horizon, as well as fiddling around with game-making software, RPG Maker VX Ace and GameMaker Studio. Expect articles incoming any day.
Enough babbling. More gaming. See ya. Ian
