Don’t be fooled by my streetwise attitude; I’ve been around the block a few times, I’m long in the tooth, stuck in my ways. Like Victor Meldrew I am very much in fact one foot in the grave. Well maybe not, but I am old enough to remember the rabid tabloid frenzy kicked up by the UK press, and aimed directly at the Child’s Play movies.
Although there was never any proof to link the movies to any actual crimes, Chucky the series antihero, gained infamy on this side of the pond purely through the unfounded associations made by the tabloid press, and for a little while the ‘ban this sick filth’ crowd looked like they would send everyones favourite Good-Guy back to the dumpster from whence he came.
In the end, sense prevailed and helped just a little bit by the total lack of evidence linking Chucky to the crimes, the Child’s Play series has established itself as one of the most inventive franchises in horror cinema, and definately one of the only franchises that hasn’t sent it’s protagonist to space….
Well Daily Mail fans, get ready for that controversy to rear its ugly head again, as indy developer TikGames have taken a step back, steadied their aim and kicked the Child’s Play hornets nest right into the heart of middle England with the upcoming, ‘Chucky’ video game.
The game will see you controlling the littlest psycho as he slashes/stabs/maims his way through an all new adventure, where you’ll have to use all Chucky’s sneaky skills to make sure you survive whilst no one else does. Further details are sparse at the moment as the game is still in development, (hence the lack of screens) but TikGames have promised a ‘stealth-action romp’, to be released for console and PC digital distribution services.
Time will only tell what will happen when the twin tabloid bugbears of video games and Chucky collide, but one thing’s for sure; finally after 20 years people and gamers alike will be free to open their windows, stick there heads out and shout, “Chucky encouraged me to kill people, it was blood soaked fun and I’m going to do it all again tomorrow”. As Alex Tikhman, Co-Founder and Vice President of Publishing for TikGames says,“Fans have been asking for a Chucky game for years and, soon, gamers around the world will be able to enjoy highly-entertaining, interactive, downright gory experiences with this brand.”
Oh, how times have changed.
